Mental Health and Wellbeing
These workshops address the needs of employees and managers in today’s busy working culture. They are an intervention which focuses on the essential skills and knowledge needed to manage occupational mental health and wellbeing effectively. Research has shown that if we increase wellbeing, performance also increases.

Programme topics
ALCOHOL
Alcohol can lead to the deterioration of health and relationships, increased accident rates and diminishing levels of effectiveness and productivity across all areas of our lives. This session was designed to:
- Explore our relationship with alcohol and any impact on our wellbeing

BEREAVEMENT & GRIEF
Grief impacts on an individual’s emotional, physical and psychological wellbeing and at any one time, 1 in 10 employees is likely to be affected by a bereavement. Whilst an intensely personal experience, a flexible and compassionate response from employers and colleagues can ensure that the impact on both the individual and the organisation is minimised. In this workshop you will explore:
- Bereavement, grief and mourning
- The wider impact over time
- Models of grief
- Strategies for supporting colleagues in the workplace
BULLYING, HARASSMENT & DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE (BHD)
25% of employees who experience bullying will leave their job. Perceptions of bullying and harassment vary depending on our personal experiences with these topics, so it is vital that we all understand the definitions and how they impact on the individual and the workplace. This course was created with all staff in mind covering:
- Definitions for bullying, harassment, discrimination and victimisation
- Acceptable and unacceptable workplace behaviours
- The event hierarchy
- Emotional awareness and how to respond
CHANGE/TRANSITIONS
Workplace change can bring a feeling of uncertainly or unrest for employees. Equipping staff for times of change is a proactive way of employers enabling staff to cope with transitions more effectively. This course is designed for all staff and covers:
- Reasons for change and the impact they have on the workplace
- Responses to change
- Coping strategies and what we can do to self help
- How to respond and communicate during transition
CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS
No one relishes challenging conversations at work, nevertheless having a sensitive or difficult conversation are all part of a manager’s role. These can be complex, however there are methods to ensure those conversations are more productive and effective. This course is designed to support managers to:
- Prepare effectively for challenging meetings
- Navigate how to address challenging behaviour
- Explore communication theories and transactions
- Formulate solution focused communication
DOMESTIC ABUSE/VIOLENCE
Research shows that Domestic Abuse/Violence can have a profound effect on employee productivity and sickness rates in the workplace. This workshop takes an intersectional approach to the subject and will:
- Clarify our understanding of what is classed as Domestic Abuse/Violence
- Review the current landscape and context in relation to Domestic Abuse
- Recognise the signs that someone may be being abused

EFFECTIVE REMOTE WORKING
From organising remote meetings to setting up a workspace for productive working, remotely working can take some getting used to. This effective Remote Working workshop is aimed at employees who regularly work remotely or are new to working from work from home. This interactive workshop will:

- Explore virtual communication tools for staying connected
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE FOR LEADERS
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the capacity to understand and manage your emotions. In the workplace this can have many benefits, such as more effective communication, collaboration and motivation – not to mention a happier and ultimately more productive workforce. Developing our EI means that we are also better placed to support our own and others wellbeing. This interactive workshop will allow you to:

EMOTIONAL WELLBEING
Fear and anxiety can be extremely overwhelming, limiting our ability to function during this critical time. This session will identify practical strategies and techniques to help us to adjust, by:

- Identify the role of personal responsibility within wellbeing
- Identifying strategies to reduce anxiety
- Highlight avenues for support and signposting
IMPROVING YOUR WELLBEING
Good mental wellbeing does not mean you are always happy or unaffected by your experiences. But poor mental wellbeing can make it more difficult to cope with daily life. A healthy overarching wellbeing is imperative to our resilience and work life balance. This interactive workshop will:
- Outline the different elements of your wellbeing
- Self-assess your current wellbeing
- Explore where you may want to focus your attention
- Navigate strategies to ensure work life balance
INCLUSION IN THE WORKPLACE
Research shows that companies who embrace diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their business statistically outperform their peers and in turn create health workplace cultures. This course is for all employees and explores:
- The importance of inclusion in the workplace
- How diversity is imperative for workplace progression and success
- Outline’s policies and guidance
- Discuss how we can all be part of an inclusive approach
INDIVIDUAL/GROUP COACHING
An opportunity to discuss concerns, worries and fears in a confidential and safe environment. We encourage participants to identify personal steps to help them through these difficulties and help each other to identify solutions where appropriate.
We recommend a maximum of 12 delegates for group coaching sessions.
LISTENING CIRCLES
Listening circles provide a safe confidential space for employees to say what they are thinking and feeling. They help mutual understanding and provide a source of support in difficult or stressful times. They focus on exploring the issues and learning together. These circles provide a:
- Opportunity to be open and transparent
- Nurture reflective practice
- A solution focused approach
- A joined-up circle providing anonymous feedback to the organisation
LONELINESS & ISOLATION
Loneliness is a subjective feeling about the gap between a person’s desired levels of social contact and their actual level of social contact. Long-term loneliness is associated with an increased risk of certain mental health problems, including depression, anxiety and increased stress. In this workshop we will:
- Heighten delegates understanding of Loneliness and Isolation
- Highlight the signs to look for when supporting others
- Identify the psychological impact of loneliness and isolation
- Develop practical strategies for creating and retaining connection
MENTAL HEALTH
We all have a responsibility to look after our own wellbeing and our Mental Health is no different. Using the mental health continuum this workshop is designed to:
- Help identify warning signs and potential symptoms
- Discuss the importance of self-care and personal responsibility
- Raise confidence in challenging workplace MH stigma
- Highlight support and signposting services
MENTAL HEALTH & RETURNING TO WORK
For some returning to work is a big milestone in their recovery process and after a period of poor mental health can feel overwhelming. Some may be worried about what colleagues will think, or others worry they will not be able to cope. It is important to give and get the right support at these times. This course is designed for all staff to:
- Highlight main challenges when returning to work
- Explore the impact of HSE stressors & returning to work
- Discuss suitable reason adjustments
- Identify a framework for support
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST RESPONDERS/WELLBEING CHAMPIONS
Organisations have a duty of care to support their employees when MIH issues arise. Many are now opting to train key staff as MH first responders adding to their organisational MH toolkit. This 2-day intensive course will train staff to:
- Assert role and provide clear responsibilities
- Examine MIH conditions and identify signs
- Form appropriate responses & support
- Identify the key areas of self-care for self and colleagues

MINDFULNESS
In a constantly changing, high pressured and forever ‘switched on’ world, it can be increasingly difficult to move from reactive firefighting to a calm and considered state of mind. In the long term this can increase our stress, reduce our ability to think logically and decrease our effectiveness. During this workshop you will establish:
- The wider context for resilience and wellbeing
- Mindful practice
- Strategies for building resilience & micro mindfulness
- Links between mindfulness, resilience, and personal effectiveness
MONEY MATTERS
1 in 4 workers report that money worries have affected their ability to do their job, with a further 19% stating they have lost sleep over financial concerns impacting on their wellbeing and productivity at work. This creates a convincing view for employers to take action and train staff on this ever-growing issue. This practical course aims to raise awareness by

PERIMENOPAUSE - MENOPAUSE - ANDROPAUSE
Menopausal women are now the fastest growing workforce demographic. Research shows that nearly 8 out of 10 of menopausal women are in work with 3 out of 4 of them experiencing symptoms. It is imperative that employers upskill their staff to acknowledge menopause as an issue for the workplace and support women employees at this stage. In this workshop you will explore:

SLEEP

STRESS & RESILIENCE
Most people will experience pressure and stress at some point in their lives. Learning how to recognise the warning signs can allow you to take action, reduce the impact it has on you and increase personal resilience. This workshop explores how staff can:
- Recognise stress and its impact
- Identify levels of pressure and the link to performance
- Develop personal strategies for building resilience
- Discover wider strategies for personal wellbeing
SUICIDE PREVENTION
Suicide can be a daunting topic to deal with especially within the workplace. Many fear the sensitive conversations that surround suicide concerned that they might do or say the wrong thing. Ultimately prevention is key, this course is designed to support and aid staff by:
- Explore mental ill health and suicide ideation
- Be suicide alert and Assess risk & safety
- Apply a preventative workplace intervention model

UNCONSCIOUS BIAS
Unconscious bias refers to the deep-seated biases we all absorb due to living in deeply unequal societies. Unconscious or implicit bias can lead to instinctive assumptions being acted upon and can hinder a progressive workplace & healthy culture. This interactive workshop has been designed for all employees and will explore:

We can be exposed to trauma as part of our working practice and it is vital to acknowledge that the work we do can impact on us negatively. This workshop enables employees to:

- Explore common triggers and causes of trauma/Vicarious Trauma

Musculoskeletal Services
Many of us are now working from home for an extended period of time, and these changes in our working environments have an impact on our physical wellbeing.
We are now offering enhanced remote musculoskeletal services such as online DSE Assessments, and physiotherapy sessions for employees with an MSK problem who are currently unable to access face-to-face treatment.

ACTIVE STRETCH
These interactive sessions will:
- Providing home workers, office staff and operational staff with exercises to help maintain their physical health within work.
- Highlight the importance of remaining active throughout the day
- Show that the exercises are structured so that they can be performed in areas with limited space and while performing work related tasks
- Examples include performing heel raisers while talking on the phone or core stability exercises while seated or walking.
DSE/WORKING FROM HOME ADVICE
These informative sessions will:
- Provide practical advice on however to manage your home working habits
- Environment and DSE setup to ensure you do not develop muscular skeletal concerns
- Practical tips and pointers to ensure your home setup can rival the comforts of an office environment without breaking the bank
- Examples of home setups
HEALTHY HEART
These informative sessions will:
- Focus on maintaining a healthy heart through physical activity, diet, stress, laughter etc.
- Highlight the relationship between certain activities, habits and adjustments we can make to ensure we maintain a healthy heart and circulatory system fit enough to see us through our lifetime.
- Explain the early development of the heart
- Discuss how the heart develops in the fetus and starts to beat at around 22 days at the start of pregnancy, in comparison to the organization of heart cells that occur around 20 weeks
KEEP ACTIVE DURING YOUR WORKING DAY
These interactive sessions will:
- Give practical tips to remain and keep active during your working day
- Highlight the importance of remaining active during your working day and how life limiting it can be if you do not
- Look at challenging the way we interact with our working environment (Home and office)

LIFESTYLE FACTORS IMPACTING ON MSK HEALTH
This informative session will:
- Discuss lifestyle factors, myths and activities which all impact on your MSK Health.
- Question the concept of exercises vs physical activity and break down the boundaries between them
- Discuss how leading an active lifestyle does not mean you have to be doing exercises all the time
- Discuss what we all can do to improve and maintain our MSK health. The choices we make today, is the life we lead tomorrow
MANUAL HANDLING OVERVIEW TRAINING
This informative session will:
- Cover basic manual handling concepts and in relation to MSK health
- Start the session with increasing our basic understanding of the human body and progress toward the most important elements of manual handling.
- Question whether bending your knees and keeping your back straight is the correct approach
- Discuss the overall concept of manual handling
