Trades people

By law goods must be “of satisfactory quality, fit for their purpose and as described on the package or by the seller”. So, what happens when this is not the case, what should the next course of action be; as a consumer what are your rights?

If thing go wrong, whenever possible you should try to give the trader a chance to put things right. This may be an easier solution than trying to claim costs or damages to put things right. If this course of action is unsuccessful you may then have to choose a different line of approach to deal with the problem.

Your rights and addressing the problem

Choices are varied and many when it comes to addressing consumer’s issues and maintaining their legal rights, but the best and correct process for dealing with a problem will be dependent on the individual’s circumstances. Circumstances being – the type of contract you have with the trader, the type of goods and the credit/payment arrangement.

To help you access information relevant to your situation we have provided some web links at the bottom of the page which will guide you through the different types of problems – your rights and how to deal with them.
